Pera Rocha, Flavor of Portugal

Pera Rocha do Oeste can be distinguished by its yellow and/or light green colour, sometimes with a pink blush on the side facing the sun, and by its russeting – the name given to the characteristic brown freckles joined at the base – which are always present.

It has a white, firm, crispy, sweet, granular flesh.

The speckling on the skin next to the stalk, called russeting, is one of the differentiating marks of this unique pear variety. It’s not a flaw, it’s a feature! The sugars that make it so characteristically sweet accumulate in the russeting. The percentage of russeting and its concentration depend on the weather conditions each year.
